Event Analytics

Date: 2023-24

Roles: Head of Product

Organization: Upbeat

The Problem

As Upbeat's product matured and increased in complexity, we needed accurate data on the performance of key features and designs. Upbeat's data needs went beyond tracking clicks and screen views. We required insights into the subgroups and comparisons users are interested in.

My Role

As the product leader who initiated this request, I was acutely aware that our engineering resources needed to be prioritized for customer-facing work. I worked with the engineering team to instrument basic event tracking and stored all raw events in an AWS bucket. Using R, I developed a simple dashboard that enabled session replays.

The tool allowed the team to make feature trade-offs using precise data on user activation, feature adoption, and provided the consulting team with insight on the client's areas of concerns and focus.

The Learning

  • Interactive data exploration with R Shiny

  • Market-basked analysis to analyze patterns in filter features

  • User segmentation
